THE DINO ROSSI QUESTION: Robert W. Peck, State Chairman, Constitution Party of Washington - August 12, 2010

A friend recently asked me for my take on the U.S. Senate race and the 'Dino Rossi question.' They asked "Are the Republicans supporting Rossi?? Who should we be supporting?" In asking "are the Republicans supporting Rossi?" I am confident they were referring to the state Republican Party, or more precisely, the party's leadership and the establishment power structure within the party. It is quite apparent to me "the Republicans" are indeed supporting Rossi.

Forgive me if I'm wrong, and please provide the evidence to establish that fact, but it appears to me that Mr. Rossi is a moderate who represents the establishment powers that are backing him and is being used by the same to undercut Clint Didier because Didier represents actual Constitutional policies and the grassroots populace. My perception is that the establishment powers are afraid they could loose control of the situation, loose control of the Republican Party, and end up with someone in the U.S. Senate who actually understands the God-given role of civil government, upholds the original intent of the U.S. Constitution, protects the God-given rights of the people, and most frightful of all to the establishment powers, would embolden the grassroots, Tea Partiers and the like, to rise up, shake off the yoke of the establishment powers and take back our country and our liberty.

HOBSON'S CHOICE (from the Merriam-Webster Online Dictionary):

1. an apparently free choice when there is no alternative;
2. the necessity of accepting one of two equally objectionable alternatives.
In the late 16th and early 17th centuries, Thomas Hobson worked as a licensed carrier of passengers, letters, and parcels between Cambridge and London, England. He ...kept horses for this purpose and rented them to university students when he wasn't using them. Of course, the students always wanted their favorite mounts, and consequently a few of Hobson's horses became overworked. To correct the situation, Hobson began a strict rotation system, giving each customer the choice of taking the horse nearest the stable door or none at all. This rule became known as "Hobson's choice," and soon people were using that term to mean "no choice at all" in all kinds of situations.

The current American political situation is HOBSON's CHOICE in action. The voter is given two choices and two choices only, both of whom state that they are radically opposed to one another, but in reality both move the country in the same direction, just in different ways and at different paces. We would not be in this situation had not both choices let us down this path by wandering away from our constitutional roots. Both parties have had generations to correct their path and have not done it. The Constitution Party offers an opportunity to break that destructive cycle, yet voters continue to allow themselves to be swayed into HOBSON's CHOICE by tired old arguments that didn't work in the 1990's, didn't work in 2008, and won't work now.

FREE MARKET POLITICAL SOLUTION: "I find it interesting that over and over I hear 'conservative' Republicans saying that a a third choice on the ballot is a bad thing, will split the vote, foul up the whole balance of power, dilute the system, etc. But aren't these the same conservatives who tout free market economic solutions, saying that freedom of choice in the market place will encourage competition, more choice, better products, etc. as producers compete for their market share. Part of that free market philosophy also says that if a company or business can't hold on to its market share and doesn't adapt to give its customers what they want, then it deserves to fail. I actually agree with that philosophy and believe that if it's true in one matter, then it can be applied in all. If a given political party does not provide the product that their base supporters want, then another party should come along and provide that product and pick up that market share. If there are only two stores in town, both selling mostly the same line of cheap stuff made in China and I don't want the products being sold by either store, then is the answer for me to pledge to continue to shop at one of those stores and to lobby to keep any other stores from moving into town, then, once I have made my town safe for the two store monopoly, complain that they continue to sell me the same old products that I never wanted in the first place. Any rational, sane, free market conservative would go out and look for a store that is selling what they want, then work to convince them to open a store in their town in the hope of forcing the existing stores to compete and maybe change their product line or be forced out of business." The Tenth Amendment states:

"The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the States,
are reserved to the States respectively, or to the people."

The Constitution delegated few, enumerated powers to the Federal Government, reserving all remaining powers to the States and the people. Thus, powers of the Federal were the exception. Our federal republic was created by joint action of the several states. It has been gradually perverted into a socialist machine for federal control in the domestic affairs of the states. The federal government has no authority to mandate policies relating to state education, natural resources, transportation, private business, housing, and health care, ad infinitum.

We call upon the states to reclaim their legitimate role in federal affairs and legislation and thus cause the federal government to divest itself of operations not authorized by the Constitution and extract the federal government from such enterprises, whether or not they compete with private enterprise.

BILL OF RIGHTS DAY: Celebrate the Sixth Amendment

"In all criminal prosecutions, the accused shall enjoy the right to a speedy and public trial, by an impartial jury of the State and district where in the crime shall have been committed, which district shall have been previously ascertained by law, and to be informed of the nature and cause of the accusation; to be confronted with the witnesses against him; to have compulsory process for obtaining witnesses in his favor, and to have the Assistance of Counsel for his defense."

Consider the implications of certain provisions of the Patriot Acts which deny Sixth Amendment rights to certain accused in the name of national security. It is always in the name of safety and security that people close their eyes and allow violations of inherent rights--rights to be protected by government, not given by government.

Open your eyes and elect a new government while you still can. Out with the old and in with the new. If you want real change vote for Constitution Party candidates, the only political party whose platform is based upon the Bill of Rights, the Declaration of Independence, and the Constitution. The Constitution Party is based upon fundamental principles given by God to Mankind, "that all Men are created equal and endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable rights", rights which no Man made government can bestow or take away unless we, as individual sovereign citizens, allow it.

Just say NO to the powers that have usurped our constitutional government to their own ends for decades, and of both major parties. Make PRINCIPLES OVER POLITICS your New Year's Resolution!
